How to get Print Settings in Ventura to Work Correctly REVISED

tvalleau

Ventura completely redid the entire systems settings, which is confusing enough, but for those of us who rely on the ability to save and recall printer settings, it’s a bit of a nightmare, as it’s hardly “intuitive.”

The problem seems to be that the settings are not actually recalled, pretty much defeating the whole point, eh?

Here’s how I got it to work:

What I did:

NOTE: before doing any of this, I deleted ALL my previous presets, using the minus button in the presets list.

Ran Preview and created printer presets (after setting the target printer, of course)

Hit Print; created preset; saved it; hit cancel (to remove the dialog)

wash, rinse, repeat.

Mac Studio; Ventura 13.5; Epson SC-P6000 for color, and Epson 3880 for Piezography.

I print through Print Tool in all cases. I do not print through Adobe products.

19 color and 8 B&W.

When done, I went to Print Tool and loaded up each setting to verify that the proper settings loaded. They all did.

then I went to Photoshop 2023, and did the same thing with the same results.

Sooo… it looks good so far.

My previous posting here ended up not working for many people, hence this revision

  1. Sadly, even with 13.5, Lightroom printing is still wonky with presets and Epson stuff, although I think Photoshop is fine (as you’ve found). I too use the Preview option for creating presets, and I add one step — I always go back to the Default Settings preset, and then do my new settings. I still get presets that don’t suddenly work as they once did, but it’s been rare. (My workflow is pretty well set at this point, or I’d use PT — as I did doing ago.)

The other thing I found that is really causing problems is if you click on any other section in the Printer Options after you’ve set (or confirmed, which is what I’ve found I need with the presets now) the Printer Settings section, it resets the whole Options to Epson’s defaults. I’ve helped a couple of folks who keep checking the Color Matching section after setting the paper, and then print, only to find that the settings got reset to the defaults.

  2. Thanks for your comments. I do not print with Lightroom nor with Photoshop. I print using either PrintTool or Qimage, and have no problems. Perhaps reporting this to Adobe will be of some help.
